I’m turning twenty-two tomorrow and I still feel like I’m eighteen.
I had lunch with my parents, my brother and his wife for the occasion.
On hindsight, it feels like nothing changed (I still joke around with my older brother, tease my dad and act like a kid around my mum), but in actuality change happens every second. I’m not the only one getting older–my parents are, my brother and his wife are and now they’re expecting a little one to come later this year. Time just flows; and the more you yearn for time past, time just escapes through your fingers like sand (seemingly uncountable, but actually it is limited).
Where did time go? What did I do for the past twenty-two years? Did I do anything significant? Did I waste time? Am I still on the process of being someone? Or am I someone in the process of doing something?
Honestly I don’t know.
And I’ve learned that I don’t need to know everything and have everything together.
Actually I’ve learned couple of things by being alive in this world for twenty-two years;
1.) I’ve learned that God is faithful and good and He loves me so much.
2.) I’ve learned to look at the larger picture and realize that my ‘problems’ are smaller that I make it to be.
3.) I’ve learned that I’m not built to please everyone, but cherish the people who I truly care about.
4.) I’ve learned not to run away from problems, but face them.
5.) I’ve learned that I need good people in my life and no man is an island.
6.) I’ve learned that it is good to travel and experience things on your own.
7.) I’ve learned to live in the moment and thank God for every little blessing that comes my way.
8.) I’ve learned that life operates in seasons.
9.) I’ve learned the right time, in the right place with the right people is crucial.
10.) I’ve learned there is no such thing as coincidence.
11.) I’ve learned that good things are worth waiting and are fought for.
12.) I’ve learned that people are people, and if they’re my cup of tea or not, they’re still amazing in their own way.
13.) I’ve learned to give myself a time to rest, reflect and think. (And it’s not a waste of time)
14.) I’ve learned that it’s okay to be transparent and make mistakes and be human.
15.) I’ve learned that there is more to life than what I see, what I think and what I feel.
16.) I’ve learned to focus on other people, not on myself.
17.) I’ve learned to hold on God’s words and believe them more than my words or the words of others.
18.) I’ve learned to let go of things that are not in my control.
19.) I’ve learned that there is a point in time when age becomes just a number.
20.) I’ve learned that God’s plans for me is greater than myself so I desperately need Him in order to fulfill it.
21.) I’ve learned that I have a short term memory and I might forget all these things I have learned.
22.) I’ve learned that I won’t stop learning till the day I die (and I don’t know when that is).
And there are so many things left to be learned.
