Last summer, I bought Strengths Finder with a friend. Apparently someone encouraged her to buy it and take the test that’s in it. I was curious. So, I bought it.
Stregthsfinder resource that “helps individuals” discover, define and encourage the growth of themes (or characteristics and skills) that are helpful for business but mostly the personal growth of a person. The book is simply a guide: first it explains the book’s purpose, the process on how it came to be, then it gives you step by step instructions and a list of 34 themes and it’s explanations and examples. It includes a test and a array of online resources that is tailored specially to you from the results you have.
I’ve taken it a year ago, but I’ve always forgotten my top five themes. I’ve never really thought about it too deeply and examined myself. So I want to share it and hopefully shed some insight on these five strengths of mine.
MY TOP 5 STRENGTHS
People who are especially talented in the Developer theme recognize and cultivate the potential in others. They spot the signs of each small improvement and derive satisfaction from these improvements.
By nature, you are keenly aware of others’ moods.
I like to help, encourage and see people grow and mature. This could probably be it. I find joy in seeing people grow and be successful. I find it an honor and a privilege if I helped, support and somehow contributed to that growth. Despite of being a self proclaimed introvert, I do love people a lot, and I will probably do my best in helping them reach their full potential.
People who are especially talented in the Positivity theme have an enthusiasm that is contagious. They are upbeat and can get others excited about what they are going to do.
I hate negativity. I’m allergic to it. I’m pretty carefree and usually brush my worries aside. I encourage others to do it as well. Reality is there, I don’t escape that fact. We go through crazy circumstances and situations and there are just things that are out of our hands. I’ve learned that we have choices: it’s either we drown under those things or we choose to look through the eyes of faith, hope and positivity. And when we do, we will always be reminded that the good always outweighs the bad.
(I could feel the positivity oozing out here.)
People who are especially talented in the Strategic theme create alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they can quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues.
Despite of my oozing positivity, which believe could taken into an extreme and just off the cliff sometimes, I actually like thinking logically. In patterns. Like a game. For every problem there is an answer, and if a problem rises, I’ll be that person who will think through every possible route one could take, its cost and its result. If there is no answer in that list, I’ll create a new one: like magic, but really it’s just creativity and imagination.
People who are especially talented in the Empathy theme can sense the feelings of other people by imagining themselves in others’ lives or others’ situations.
Since I love people, I love their stories and their backgrounds. I’ve heard pleasant stories and not so pleasant ones. I understand that people are different but the same too and that we won’t always agree 100%. I love it when people share their testimony, and how Christ change their lives and my heart just gets warm and fuzzy inside. I want to understand people, I want to learn from them, I want to know them, comfort them, encourage them that they are loved, no matter who, where, what is.
People who are especially talented in the Belief theme have certain core values that are unchanging. Out of these values emerges a defined purpose for their life.
This probably stems out with my relationship with Christ, no doubt. I uphold values and morals and foundations that has taught and molded me and shaped me. I choose to stand strong on my convictions even though others may say otherwise. So when everything shakes and crumbles, in a generation that is quite sporadic and temporal, I want to stand strong on these beliefs, and hopefully share it to others as well.
If you ever took the Strengthsfinder, what are your strengths?
